Yesterday, Broadway institution Mamma Mia! announced that it will be vacating its 12-year home at Broadway's Winter Garden Theater and moving south to another Broadway venue, the Broadhurst. So far there has been no official news as to the reason for the move, but the New York Times has an idea.
Rocky, a new musical that had its world premiere in Hamburg last fall, may have its sights set on Broadway, according to two theater executives who spoke with the Times, and the current plan is to take the show to the Winter Garden.
The two execs spoke with the newspaper on a condition of anonymity because the plans for Rocky are still confidential.
Rocky features a book by Thomas Meehan and a score by Stephen Flahtery and Lynn Ahrens. It is a musical version of the classic film of the same name.
