The American Repertory Theater's production of Pippin opens on Broadway tonight. Pippin, played by Matthew James Thomas (Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark), sets off on a death-defying journey to find his "corner of the sky" with the help (or hindrance) of a mysterious group of performers led by Patina Miller (Sister Act) as the Leading Player. Pippin must decide between an "extraordinary" life with a singular moment of blazing glory or an ordinary one alongside his love, Catherine, played by Rachel Bay Jones (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).

This revival features original circus elements by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main. With a book by Roger O. Hirson and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Pippin features music supervision and arrangements by Nadia DiGiallonardo, orchestrations by Larry Hochman, scenic design by Scott Pask, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, costume design by Dominique Lemieux, and sound design by Jonathan Deans and Garth Helm.

The cast also features Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann (The Addams Family) as Charlemagne, Tony Award nominee Charlotte d'Amboise (A Chorus Line) as Fastrada, Erik Altemus (The Fantasticks) as Lewis, Andrew Cekala (Ragtime) and Ashton Woerz (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) rotating as Theo, and Tony Award winner Andrea Martin (Young Frankenstein) as Berthe. Other members of the company include Grégory Arsenal, Lolita Costet, Colin Cunliffe, Andrew Fitch, Orion Griffiths, Viktoria Grimmy, Sabrina Harper, Olga Karmansky, Bethany Moore, Brad Musgrove, Stephanie Pope, Philip Rosenberg, Yannick Thomas, Molly Tynes, and Anthony Wayne.

The original production of Pippin opened on Broadway in 1972 under the direction of Bob Fosse. This coming-of-age musical features songs that have become Broadway standards, including "Corner of the Sky," "Magic To Do," "l Guess I'll Miss the Man," "Glory," "No Time at All," "Morning Glow," and "Love Song."
