The Broadway production of Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy, starring two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, has extended its Broadway run for an additional 16 performances, through Wednesday, July 3. The production, directed by two-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, opened on April 1 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
Lucky Guy, Ephron's final play, charts the rise, fall, and rise again of New York City tabloid journalist Mike McAlary (Hanks), who received a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Abner Louima police brutality case shortly before his untimely death from cancer in 1998. Hanks is joined on stage by Maura Tierney (Alice McAlary), Christopher McDonald (Eddie Hayes), Peter Gerety (John Cotter), Courtney B. Vance (Hap Hairston), Peter Scolari (Michael Daly), Richard Masur (Jerry Nachman/Stanley Joyce), Brian Dykstra (Brian O'Regan), Michael Gaston (Jim Dwyer), Dustyn Gulledge (Dino Tortorici), Andrew Hovelson (Reporter), Deirdre Lovejoy (Louise Imerman/Debby Krenek), Danny Mastrogiorgio (Bob Drury/John Miller), and Stephen Tyrone Williams (Abner Louima). The production also features Paula Jon De Rose, Joe Forbrich, Thomas Michael Hammond, and Marc Damon Johnson.
Lucky Guy has scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, sound design by Scott Lehrer, lighting design by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, and projection design by batwin + robin productions.
