Labyrinth Theater Company's board of directors has announced that Mimi O'Donnell will take over as the company's artistic director beginning with the 2013-14 season.
O'Donnell has served as codirector of the company with Stephen Adly Guirgis and Yul Vázquez since 2009. She will continue as its sole artistic director, marking the first time in Labyrinth's history that a single full-time artistic director will fill the position.
During her previous years with the company, O'Donnell has directed the world premiere of Thinner Than Water and was nominated for a Tony Award as a producer for the company's Broadway debut of The Motherf**ker with the Hat. During her career as a respected costume designer, The Little Flower of East Orange, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and the Off-Broadway, West End, and Donmar Warehouse productions of Jesus Hopped The A Train.
O'Donnell said in a statement, "I'm honored to be able to expand upon the work we've done and am very excited to guide our extraordinary ensemble and vibrant institution into a new period of sustained growth."
Labyrinth Theater Company is an award-winning downtown ensemble. Founded in 1992, Labyrinth has spent the last 20 years developing hundreds of original works and premiering 57 new American plays, including Jesus Hopped The A Train, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Our Lady of 121st Street, Thinner Than Water, and The Motherf**ker With The Hat.
