The upcoming year-long "Sonnet Project" has announced that actors Michael Urie (Buyer & Cellar), Austin Pendleton (The Last Will), Lynn Cohen (Ivanov), Joanna Gleason (Sons of the Prophet), and Chris Sarandon (Cyrano de Bergerac) have signed up to be filmed speaking one of William Shakespeare's 154 sonnets.

The project, helmed by New York Shakespeare Exchange, was funded with a recent Kickstarter campaign. The plan is to film versions of all of Shakespeare's sonnets, each performed by a different actor in a unique location in New York City, and release them over the course of a year. The videos will then be released at SonnetProjectNYC.com.

The program's goal, New York Shakespeare Exchange artistic director Ross Williams said to the New York Times, is "to try to figure out how to make Shakespeare a part of contemporary culture in more than a pull-it-off-the-shelf-and-blow-the-dust-off way."

The program will have a free, open-to-the-public kickoff event on April 26 at the Drama Book Shop. It will include wine, cheese, and, of course, an open-mic, where any Shakespeare nerd in attendance will be allowed to read the Shakespearean passage of their choice.
