Broadway Legend Elaine Stritch Bids Farewell to New York City With New Carlyle Concert

Tom Hanks, Bernadette Peters, Tony Bennett, and Liza Minnelli were among the VIPs who celebrated Stritch on her (final?) opening night.

In her signature white shirt, black vest, and tights, 88-year-old Broadway legend Elaine Stritch opened her final engagement at New York's Café CarlyleElaine Stritch at the Carlyle: Movin' Over and Out — with a star-studded performance on Tuesday, April 2. As previously reported, Stritch, who was backed during the concert by her musical director Rob Bowman, is leaving the Big Apple after 71 years to return to her home state of Michigan.

Stritch is best known for roles in several Broadway productions of Sondheim musicals including Company and A Little Night Music. She also performed in her Tony Award-winning Broadway solo show, Elaine Stritch At Liberty, in 2002 and appeared in many episodes of NBC's 30 Rock as Colleen Donaghy, the mother of Alec Baldwin's character, Jack Donaghy.

Joining Stritch to celebrate her Carlyle engagement included celebrity pals Bernadette Peters, Liza Minnelli, Tony Bennett, Martin Short, Tom Hanks, and Michael Feinstein, among others.
