Blythe Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker Lead World Premiere of Amanda Peet’s The Commons of Pensacola

The Commons of Pensacola, a new play by actress Amanda Peet (Barefoot in the Park), will have its world premiere this fall at Manhattan Theatre Club’s New York City Center — Stage I. Blythe Danner (Nice Work If You Can Get It) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex in the City) are set to star in the production, which is directed by Lynne Meadow and begins performances on October 22 in advance of a November 21 opening.
The Commons of Pensacola marks Peet’s professional playwriting debut. On stage, she has appeared in Barefoot in the Park, The Break of Noon, and This Is How It Goes, and she is known for her performances on screen in The Whole Nine Yards, Something’s Gotta Give, and Igby Goes Down. Meadow, the artistic director of Manhattan Theatre Club, has helmed the organization’s recent productions of The Assembled Parties, Wit, and many others.
Danner won a Tony Award for her performance in Butterflies are Free and received back-to-back Emmys for her work on the Showtime series Huff. Parker won two Emmy Awards, three SAG Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards for her performance on HBO’s Sex and the City. She has appeared on stage in The Heidi Chronicles, Once Upon a Mattress, Annie, and Wonder of the World. The pair reunites on stage for the first time after having starred in MTC’s 1995 production of A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia.
