Bette Midler will make her long-anticipated return to the Broadway stage this evening at the Booth Theatre with the official opening of I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers. This marks Midler's first appearance in a Broadway show (not counting her many solo concerts) since her three-year run with Fiddler on the Roof, which opened on Broadway in 1964.
The one-woman show features approximately 85 minutes of nonstop Midler as the politically incorrect "superagent" Sue Mengers, who represented a myriad of high-profile celebrities including Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, Ali MacGraw, and many more. By the 1970s she had become one of the most powerful talent agents in Hollywood, after rising from poverty as a German refugee. Two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (The Other Place) directs the production.
