The Spectacular Now and Smashed writer-director James Ponsoldt has reportedly signed on with The Weinstein Company to script a movie adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson's Tony Award-nominated Pippin, according to Deadline.com. So far, there's been no word as to when the film will be released.

Pippin, currently on Broadway in a revival under the direction of Diane Paulus, tells a coming-of-age story about a young prince who seeks to find his place in the world with the help of a mysterious group of performers.

James Ponsoldt's film The Spectacular Now premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival this January. He is also set to adapt Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick's new novel Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock to the screen.
