The 31st Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards will be held on June 3 at New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The Astaire Awards are the only awards show to honor excellence in the fields of dance and choreography on Broadway and in film. The late dancer Fred Astaire and the late critic and writer Douglas Watt founded the awards in 1982 in celebration of dance on film and stage. The awards will feature direction from Juilliard School teacher and Executive Director of the New York City Dance Alliance, Joe Lanteri. The awards are presented annually by Douglas Watt's daughter, Patricia Watt. Event chairs include Carolyn Kendall Buchter, Alix Michel, and Scarlett Pildes.

The nominees for this year's awards will be announced on May 6 at Lillie's Times Square during an invite-only cocktail reception. Categories include: Outstanding Male Dancer in a Broadway Show, Outstanding Female Dancer in a Broadway Show, Outstanding Choreographer for a Broadway Show, Outstanding Choreographer for Film, and Outstanding Director for Dance Documentary.

This year, the Fred & Adele Astaire Awards will also honor dance legends Marge Champion (Follies) and Ted Chapin (President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company) with a brand new award, Outstanding Achievement in the Preservation of Musical Theatre.

The Astaire Awards will also present a special "Adele Astaire Scholarship" to a young, up-and-coming dancer.
