Susan Stroman, Deborah Warner to Direct Future Metropolitan Opera Productions

Metropolitan Opera General Director Peter Gelb revealed plans for future seasons to The New York Times in an interview.


Among the upcoming productions mentioned by Gelb are a new version of Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow, to be directed by Tony Award winner Susan Stroman and starring Renee Fleming.


Other notable productions will include Deborah Warner’s staging of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with Mariusz Kwiecien and Anna Netrebko, which will open the company’s season in 2013. Russian director Dmitri Tcherniako’s production of Borodin’s Prince Igor, to be choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky; Wiliam Kentridge’s production of Anton Berg’s Lulu starring the soprano Marlis Petersen; and Robert Lepage’s production of Messiaen’s St. François d’Assise with Eric Owens in the title role.
