PHOTO FLASH: Oprah Winfrey Visits Broadway’s Memphis

Oprah Winfrey attended the Broadway production of Memphis, at the Shubert Theatre, on Wednesday, April 4. Afterwards, she visited with the cast, including stars Adam Pascal and Montego Glover.

The musical takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun (Pascal) fell in love with everything he shouldn’t: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer (Glover).

Memphis won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro), Best Book (Joe DiPietro), and Best Orchestrations (David Bryan and Daryl Waters).

Winfrey produced the Broadway musical The Color Purple. She is best known as the host of the Emmy Award-winning The Oprah Winfrey Show and head of The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). She has acted in film and television, most notably as Sofia in the film version of The Color Purple.
