Peter Sellars Among Opera News Awards Winners

Acclaimed theater and opera director Peter Sellars is among the 2012 winners of the Opera News Awards, which were handed out on Sunday, April 29.
Among his theater-related works is a 2009 New York production of Othello that starred Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Ortiz, and Jessica Chastain, and the forthcoming collaboration with Malian singer/songwriter Rokia Traoré and Nobel Prize-winning novelist Toni Morrison, Desdemona, which will be seen at the Barbican Theatre in London this summer. Among his many opera productions are Nixon in China and Dr. Atomic.
Opera News Awards were also given to baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, baritone Peter Mattei, soprano Karita Mattila, and soprano Anja Silja.
