Christian Camargo will direct a new film version of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, according to a report in Variety. His wife, actress Juliet Rylance, is producing the picture.

Camargo has also written the screenplay for the project, which resets the play in rural New England where a family convenes for a Memorial Day weekend, during which everyone must confront the volatile and fragile natures of their passions. Stage veterans Katie Holmes, William Hurt, Allison Janney, and Mark Rylance have all been mentioned for starring roles.

Camargo won an Obie Award for his portrayal of Hamlet and has also appeared onstage in The Underpants, Kit Marlowe, and Henry V. Among his film and television credits are The Hurt Locker, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Good Wife, The Medium, and Dexter.
