Broadway’s Evita to Receive Complete, Two-Disc Cast Recording

Masterworks Broadway will release the new cast recording of the Broadway revival of Evita, playing at the Marquis Theatre, as a two-CD set. Along with this news, it has been announced that the recording will be available for purchase on June 26, rather than the previously reported June 19.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, along with Nigel Wright, will produce the recording which will mark the first complete English language stage recording of the show since the original 1979 Broadway cast album. Librettist Tim Rice will serve as Executive Producer.

Evita tells the story of Argentina’s Eva Peron, who used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. She won international acclaim and adoration from her own people as a champion of the poor, while glamour, power and greed made her the world’s first major political celebrity. Among the songs in the show are “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Buenos Aires,” “On This Night of a Thousand Stars,” “Rainbow High,” and “High Flying Adored.”

Directed by Michael Grandage and featuring choreography by Rob Ashford, the show stars Elena Roger (Eva), Ricky Martin (Che), and Michael Cerveris (Juan Peron), along with Max von Essen (Magaldi) and Rachel Potter (Mistress).
