2011 Oscar nominee David Seidler was the honoree at Our Time Theatre Company’s annual gala, held at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU on Monday, April 11.
Seidler was recognized for his screenplay for The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth as George VI, who was the King of England during World War II, and a person who stuttered.
Performers and presenters at the gala included Jane Alexander, Kelli O’Hara, Jason Patric, Ron Rifkin, Amy Ryan, Carly Simon, and Ben Taylor.
The non-profit organization uses the arts as an innovative and effective approach to improving the confidence and communication skills of youth who stutter. The gala will feature original poems, speeches, and songs (written by the kids themselves) alongside professional artists.
