On Monday, April 4, a cadre of more than two dozen British stage and screen stars from the Harry Potter series of films came to visit the new Harry Potter: The Exhibition at Discovery Times Square and to promote the April 15 DVD release of the penultimate Potter film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1. (The finale of the series debuts in cinemas in July.)

Among those on hand was theater great Sir Michael Gambon, who plays the role of Headmaster Dumbledore. Not surprisingly, Gambon — a Tony Award nominee for his work in Skylight — also used his time in New York to see his favorite Hogwarts student, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, perform in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

“He’s jolly good. Who knew he could sing and dance and do it well?” said Gambon. “Daniel gives me a hard time on set. This was our sixth film together and we can be very, very naughty.”

Gambon also mentioned that he couldn’t relate to the stage frenzy that greets Radcliffe after his performance. “I never meet my stage fans. I’m always the first out the door with my head down. And those fans tend to be a bit older,” he says. “Now, kids stop me on the street and I love that!”
