Bruce Sabath to Replace Jim Walton in Sphinx Winx Musical

Bruce Sabath will replace the previously reported Jim Walton in the role of Julius Caesar in the forthcoming Off-Broadway musical The Sphinx Winx. Matthew Hamel will direct the musical at Theatre Row’s Beckett Theatre, May 3-July 24, with an opening on May 18.

The show — featuring book & lyrics by Philip Capice, Anne Hitchner, and Robert Keuch with music by Kenneth Hitchner Jr. — is described as a “musical-comedy misinterpretation of ancient Egyptian history.”

The cast will will co-star Bret Shuford as Marc Antony and Erika Amato as Cleopatra, and also feature Rebecca Riker, Beth Cheryl Tarnow and Ryan Williams.

The creative team will include Tara Jeanne Vallee (choreography), Jeffrey Lodin (musical direction), Robert Kovach (scenic design), Gail Baldoni (costume design), Annmarie Duggan (lighting design) and David Lawson (sound design). Orchestrations are by Doug Katsaros, with arrangements by Jeffrey Lodin.

Sabath recently appeared Off-Broadway in the Transport Group’s revival of Hello Again. He played Larry in the 2006-07 Tony-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Company, additional New York credits including Platinum and The Jerusalem Syndrome.
