Robert Wilson Wins 2010 Jerome Robbins Award

Internationally acclaimed director, designer, and playwright Robert Wilson has won the 2010 Jerome Robbins Award. The honor carries a $100,000 prize and will be presented in a ceremony to be held in December.

Among Wilson’s many groundbreaking productions are such pieces as Einstein on the Beach, The Black Rider, Alice, The Temptation of St. Anthony and Erwartung. His work in the world of opera includes productions of Parsifal and The Magic Flute, as well as Madame Butterfly and Lohegrin for the Metropolitan Opera.

Wilson’s numerous awards and honors include an Obie award for direction, the 3rd Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize for Lifetime Achievement, two Guggenheim Fellowship awards, the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship award, a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama, and election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In addition, he has been named a “Commandeur des arts et des letters” by the French Minister of Culture.
