Paintings Created During Zero Hour to Be Auctioned Following Performances

The paintings that playwright/performer Jim Brochu creates during the course of a performance of his solo show Zero Hour, will be auctioned following the performance, with all proceeds benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

In the piece, directed by Piper Laurie, Brochu plays Zero Mostel as he’s being interviewed by a young reporter. During the course of the encounter, Mostel’s life, including his time on the Hollywood blacklist, and definitive roles are recounted. He also creates an original water-based oil on heavy sketchpad as he talks to his unseen interviewer. Though colors and shapes change with every show, the picture becomes a very meaningful part of the performance.

Each painting has been dated and numbered from the very beginning of the run of Jim Brochu’s Zero Hour, which recently celebrated its 100th performance Off-Broadway. The play performs at the DR2 Theatre.
