Nathan Lane, Kenny Leon, Macy’s to Receive Drama League Special Recognitions

Nathan Lane, Kenny Leon, and Macy’s Parade & Entertainment Group will be the recipients of 2010 Drama League Special Recognitions, to be presented at The Drama League’s 76th Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Friday, May 21 in the Grand Ballroom at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Jerry Zaks, who is directing Lane in The Addams Family, will present the actor with the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award. Denzel Washington, who is starring in Leon’s production of Fences will present him with the Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing. Theater legend Betty Buckley will present Macy’s with the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award.

As previously announced, Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth will announce the nominations for the 2010 Drama League Awards at a press conference at Sardi’s on April 20 at 11am, while as previously reported, the awards themselves will be hosted by Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie.


At the luncheon, the Drama League pays tribute to 60-70 of the season’s best performers, chosen from both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, who are nominated for The Distinguished Performance Award. The organization also bestows four other annual competitive awards: Distinguished Production of a Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, and Distinguished Revival of a Musical.
