Houses on the Moon Theater Company has announced casting for Jeffrey Solomon’s De Novo, to run April 28 – May 15 at 59E59 Theaters as part of the previously announced Americas Off Broadway festival. Solomon will direct the production, which will feature images by photojournalist Donna DeCesare.

The play is based on the true story of sixteen year-old Edgar Chocoy who pleaded with a U.S. court not to deport him to Guatemala, saying “If I go back, they’ll kill me.” The play has been crafted from immigration court transcripts, interviews and letters from the principals involved. The company will feature Jose Aranda, Carlo D’Amore, Socorro Santiago and Emily Joy Weiner.

The creative team includes Alex Escalante (scenic design), Michael Kimmel and Lisa Weinshrott (lighting design), and Andrew Ingkavet (original music and sound design).
