Ching Valdes-Aran and Ali Ewoldt will star in Diverse City Theater’s The Pearl Project, to run July 6-25 at the Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row. The three-week event will feature full-length plays by Eric Gamalinda and Jorshinelle Taleon-Sonza and two one-acts, by Kristine M. Reyes, performed in repertory.

Obie Award winner Valdes-Aran will star in Gamalinda’s Resurrection, in which a young woman’s unexplained suicide triggers a series of relentless changes in a family. Ewoldt will appear in Reyes’ Quarter Century Baby, about the surprise visit a Filipino woman and her American boyfriend get from her parents. This show will be seen on a double-bill with Something Blue, which follows an estranged father’s quest to reconnect with his daughter on her wedding day.

The other full-length play will be Taleon-Sonza’s The Encounter, which investigates an unexpected visit the incumbent President of the Philippines pays to his political rival’s prison cell. Additional casting and creative teams will be announced shortly.
