Billy Elliot‘s Carole Shelley to be Interviewed at New York Public Library

Tony Award winner Carole Shelley, who plays Grandma in Broadway’s Billy Elliot, will take part in a public conversation about her life and career on Monday, May 17 at 6pm at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Journalist and theater critic Don Shewey will conduct the interview, which will include a question and answer period.

Shelley won a Tony Award for The Elephant Man and received Tony nominations for her performances in Absurd Person Singular and Stepping Out, as well as Billy Elliot. She made her Broadway debut in the original production of The Odd Couple, playing Gwendolyn Pigeon, a role which she reprised for the film version and during the first season of the subsequent television series. Among her many other theater credits are Wicked, Cabaret, The Last Night at Ballyhoo and The Norman Conquests.

The interview with Shelley is part of the League of Professional Theatre Women’ Oral History Project, which chronicles and documents the contributions of significant theater women in many disciplines.
