Baba Brinkman to Star in The Rap Guide to Evolution

Actor and rap artist Baba Brinkman will star in The Rap Guide to Evolution at 45 Bleeker, for four performances May 4-8.

The piece explores the history and current understanding of Darwin’s theory, combining remixes of popular rap songs with lyrical storytelling that covers Natural Selection, Sexual Selection, Evolutionary Psychology, and much more. The show was featured in the summer of 2009 at the Cambridge Darwin Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe, where it won the prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award for Best New Theatre Writing.

Brinkman’s previous hip-hop theatre show, The Rap Canterbury Tales, has toured to dozens of cities around the world. In 2008, he joined forces with UK BBC Slam Champion MC Dizraeli to form the hip-hop group Mud Sun, and they co-wrote and released two albums, including The Rebel Cell,” a hip-hop play that was one of the biggest critical successes of the Edinburgh Fringe, winning the “Spirit of the Fringe Award.”
