Alan Ayckbourn, Marian Seldes, David Hyde Pierce, et al. to Receive Special Tony Awards

Alan Ayckbourn and Marian Seldes will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2010 Tony Awards, which will be presented on June 13, in a live three-hour ceremony to be broadcast by CBS from Radio City Music Hall.

In addition, David Hyde Pierce will be the recipient of the Isabelle Stevenson Award, which recognizes an individual from the theater community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian,social service or charitable organizations. Pierce is being honored for his work in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

This year’s Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre — awarded to institutions, individuals and/or organizations not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories — will go to The Alliance of Resident Theatres New York (A.R.T./New York); stage combat teacher and director B.H. Barry; and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ Executive Director Tom Viola.

As previously reported, Jeff Daniels and Lea Michele will announce the nominations for the award program’s competitive categories on May 4 at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts.
