59E59 Theaters Announces Americas Off Broadway Lineup

59E59 Theaters has announced the five productions that will be featured in its 2nd annual Americas Off Broadway series, to run April 28 – July 3.

The series will begin with Jeffrey Solomon’s De Novo (April 28-May 15), which examines the case of sixteen-year-old Edgar Chocoy, who pleaded with a U.S. court to not deport him back to his native Guatemala. Solomon will direct the production, which will feature images by photojournalist Donna DeCesare.

Alan Brody’s The Housewives of Mannheim (May 6-June 6) will be the second piece in the series. SuzAnne Barabas will direct this play that looks at three women waiting for their loved ones to come home as World War II draws to a close.

Kip Fagan will direct Jack’s Precious Moment (May 21-June 13), Samuel D. Hunter’s play about the repercussions of a video that surfaces on the Internet showing a man’s decapitation.

Up next are Charles Smith’s Freed (June 11-July 3), which focuses on the first African-American to attend college in the Midwest and which will be directed by Joe Brancato; and Jenny Beth Snyder’s staging of Ayn Rand’s Ideal (June 17-July 3), which centers on a famous actress accused of murder and the six fans who are challenged to stand by their idol.
