Turtle Shell Productions Announces Cast for Bernard Malamud’s The Assistant

Turtle Shell Productions has announced casting for the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize winning author Bernard Malamud’s The Assistant, to play The Turtle Shell Theater, April 24-May 16. Elfin Frederick Vogel will direct.

Adapted for the stage by Martin M. Zuckerman, the play tells the story of Morris Bober, a modest grocery store owner in 1940s Brooklyn, whose effort to live a virtuous life according to Jewish law is threatened by Frank Alpine, a drifter from the West, whose outsized ambitions and lust for Helen, Morris’ daughter, challenge and change the Bober family in ways they could have never imagined.

The cast will feature Alex Adams, Susan G. Bob, Bern Cohen, Rachel Claire, Deidre Lynn, Stewart Steinberg, and Drew Valins. The creative team will include Kyle Dixon (set), Rocco D’Santi (lighting), A. Christina Giannini (costumes), and Jason T. Hurley (sound).
