Preliminary casting has been announced for the Roundabout Theater Company’s production of the Charles Strouse-Lee Adams-Michael Stewart musical Bye Bye Birdie, directed and choreographed by Robert Longbottom, to premiere in Fall 2009.

The show will star John Stamos as Albert Peterson, Gina Gershon as Rosie Alvarez, Bill Irwin as Harry MacAfee, and Jayne Houdyshell as Mae Peterson. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Stamos’ Broadway credits include Cabaret and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Gershon appeared on Broadway in Boeing-Boeing and Cabaret. Irwin won the Tony Award for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and stars this month in the Roundabout’s revival of Waiting for Godot. Houdyshell received a Tony nomination for Well and will star next month in MCC Theater’s production of Coraline.

Longbottom is also set to direct the upcoming national tour of Dreamgirls, which launches at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in November.
