Institut Ramon Llull will present the Catalan Days Festival — featuring Catalan music, dance, film, theater, literature, and cuisine — in multiple venues in New York City, May 2-20. Participating venues include Baryshnikov Arts Center, Jazz Standard, the Film Society of Lincoln Center (Walter Reade Theatre), and Carnegie Hall.

Jessica Lange will kick off the interdisciplinary festival on May 2, reading from Mercè
Rodoreda’s The Time of the Doves (La Plaça del Diamant), adapted by Joan Ollé and Carlos Guillén.

On May 4, the festival will present readings of Pau Miró’s It’s Raining in Barcelona/Plou a Barcelona, performed by Lisa Joyce, Greg Keller, David Wilson Barnes; Jordi Galcerán’s The Grönholm Method/El mètode Grönholm, featuring Joyce, Keller, Barnes and Damian Young; and Lluïsa Cunillé’s Après moi, le deluge, performed by Kate Valk and others. Between the readings, the acclaimed Catalan restaurant Mercat will serve a free sampling of food.

Additional highlights will include pianist Carles Santos; pianist Chano Domínguez and Jordi Rossy, joined by his 14 year-old son, the trumpeter Fèlix Rossy; dance companies including Cia. Sònia Gómez, Sociedad Doctor Alonso, Mal Pelo, and Àngels Margarit/Cia. Mudances; Clandestí: Forbidden Catalan Cinema under Franco; and SonarSound NYC, the first American iteration of Barcelona’s Sonar festival. Catalan Days will conclude May 20 with Nights in Barcelona, a concert by New York chamber ensemble the Sylvan Winds, with pianist Douglas Riva.
