Dr. Henry Louis Gates will host a post-show discussion following the April 11 matinee performance of The Good Negro, currently running at The Public Theater, through April 19.

The play is set in the South during the 1960s American Civil Rights movement, as a trio of emerging black leaders attempts to conquer their individual demons amidst death threats from the Klan and wire taps by the FBI. The cast features Joniece Abbott-Pratt, Francois Battiste, J. Bernard Calloway, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Erik Jensen, LeRoy McClain, Curtis McClarin, Rachel Nicks, and Brian Wallace.

Gates, the Director of Harvard University’s W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African-American Research, will moderate a discussion between playwright Tracey Scott Wilson, director Liesl Tommy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Diane McWhorter (Carry Me Home).
