Bill Camp, Adam Driver, Elizabeth Marvel, David Strathairn Set for Philoctetes Project
Bill Camp, Adam Driver, Elizabeth Marvel, and David Strathairn will participate in Aquila Theatre’s The Philoctetes Project, to be presented at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, on April 13 at 8 pm.
The actors will perform scenes from Sophocles’ Ajax and Philoctetes, directed and translated by Bryan Doerries for a mixed audience of combat veterans and civilians with the objective being to de-stigmatize psychological injury and open a space for dialogue about the challenges faced by veterans today. The performance, which is open to the public, will be followed by a roundtable discussion by Bryan Doerries, Edna Wells Handy, Peter Meineck, and Brigadier General Loree Sutton.
The event is presented in conjunction with Aquila’s production of Iliad: Book One, currently in previews at the Lortel with an opening set for April 16. The company will also present a conversation with journalist and author Christopher Hedges, whose book War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning tells the story of being captured by the Iraqi Republican Guard during a Shiite uprising in Basra. Hedges will join director Peter Meineck for a post-show discussion following the April 10 performance of The Iliad.
