The Roundabout Theatre Company will present David Rabe’s 1976 drama Streamers at the Laura Pels Theatre, beginning on October 17. The production, which will open officially on November 11, will be directed by Scott Ellis and is based on Ellis’ production of the play earlier this season at Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company.

As at the Huntington, the play will star Hale Appleman (Richie), Larry Clarke (Cokes), Ato Essandoh (Carlyle), Brad Fleischer (Billy), Charlie Hewson (Martin), John Sharian (Rooney), and J.D. Williams (Roger), and the creative team will feature Neil Patel (sets), Tom Broecker (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting), and John Gromada (sound).

The play, about four young soldiers in 1965 fresh from boot camp and awaiting orders to go to Vietnam, won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Drama Desk Award, and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. Robert Altman directed a 1983 film version, which featured a screenplay by Rabe.

Ellis is currently represented on Broadway by Curtains and is the director of the Roundabout’s national tour of 12 Angry Men. His production of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s new play Good Boys and True begins previews April 23 at Second Stage Theatre.
