Karen Akers Releases Simply Styne CD; Will Debut New Show at Oak Room

Tony Award nominee Karen Akers’ new CD, Simply Styne, has been released by DRG Records. The album, devoted to the work of composer Jule Styne, includes such classic songs as “Just in Time,” Time After Time,” “Three Coins in the Fountain,” and “The Party’s Over.”

Akers, who performed Simply Styne last year at the Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room, will return there May 13-June 14 with her new show Move On, directed by Eric Michael Gillett and featuring musical direction by Don Rebic. The show will include Stephen Sondheim’s “The Glamorous Life,” Cole Porter’s “Down in the Depths,” Rodgers & Hart’s “This Funny World,” Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s “I Was Here,” and Maury Yeston’s “Move On.”

Akers received a Tony nomination for Nine and also starred on Broadway in Grand Hotel.
