Baby Love

Ashley Parker Angel, Nikki Blonsky, Kerry Butler, David Byrne, Charles Busch, Rocco DiSpirito, Johnny Galecki, Debbie Harry, and Ricki Lake are among the celebrities who joined John Waters for the opening of the Broadway musical Cry-Baby.

Thursday night’s opening of the new Broadway musical Cry-Baby brought out an eclectic mix of celebrities from the words of theater, film, fashion, and food in support of John Waters, director of the 1990 film Cry-Baby and the musical’s creative consultant.

Waters’ good friend, rock n’ roll legend Deborah Harry was among the first-nighters.

So was the great David Byrne of The Talking Heads.

Nikki Blonsky, who played Tracy in the 2007 film version of Waters’ Hairspray, caught up with Ricki Lake, who played Tracy in Waters’ original film and Pepper in the movie version of Cry-Baby.

Here’s handsome Ashley Parker Angel, who plays Link in the Broadway musical Hairspray.

Marc Shaiman won the Tony Award as the composer-lyricist of Hairspray.

Hairspray choreographer Jerry Mitchell is currently hosting Bravo TV’s Step It Up and Dance.

Kerry Butler — star of Xanadu and the original Penny Pingleton in Broadway’s Hairspray — camps it up for the camera.

The hilarious Charles Busch — who will star this summer at Bay Street in Shanghai Moon — was joined by his Die Mommie Die! co-star Ashley Morris.

Johnny Galecki, last seen on Broadway in The Little Dog Laughed, is starring in the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

Oscar-winning actress Estelle Parsons was an excited opening night guest.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel joined in the festivities.

Marc Ecko, one of the country’s most popular fashion designers, was in the house.

Director Brett Ratner, whose films include Rush Hour and X-Men 3: The Last Stand, came to the performance.

Finally, here’s celebrity chef and television personality Rocco DiSpirito, author of such popular cookbooks as Flavor and Rocco’s Real-Life Recipes.
