Michael Esper, Mitchell Greenberg, and Myra Lucretia Taylor will join previously announced stars Sigourney Weaver and Kristine Nielsen in A.R. Gurney’s Crazy Mary, which will get its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons, May 11-June 17. The production, to be directed by Jim Simpson, will open officially on June 3.

The play tells the story of a mother and son (Weaver and Esper) who visit their crazy relative, Mary (Neilsen), in an attempt to account for the family inheritance — with unexpected consequences. Greenberg and Taylor will play the doctor and nurse who look after Mary at the asylum where she lives.

The show’s creative team will include John Lee Beatty (sets), Claudia Brown (costumes), Brian Aldous (lighting), Jill BC DuBoff (sound), and Michael Holland (original design). Simpson, the artistic director of the Flea Theater, has directed Gurney’s plays Mrs. Farnsworth, O Jerusalem, Screen Play, and Post Mortem.

Esper has previously appeared Off-Broadway in Manic Flight Reaction and subUrbia. Greenberg’s Broadway credits include 3 Penny Opera, Marilyn, and Laughter on the 23rd Floor. Taylor has appeared on Broadway in Nine and Electra and co-starred in Fabulation at Playwrights Horizons.

Weaver previously starred at Playwrights Horizons in Gemini. Her Broadway credits include Hurlyburly, for which she received a Tony Award nomination, Sex and Longing, and The Constant Wife. Nielsen is currently appearing Off-Broadway in Our Leading Lady and starred in the title role of the Playwrights Horizons’ production of Christopher Durang’s Miss Witherspoon.
