Kevin Kline and Meryl Streep will be honored at the Public Theater’s 2006 Summer Gala, to be held at the Delacorte Theatre on Wednesday, June 28. The gala will coincide with the opening night of their production of Macbeth, starring Tony Award winners Liev Schreiber and Jennifer Ehle.

Kline and Streep have worked at the Public, together and separately, on numerous occasions. The pair co-starred in the 2001 production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at the Delacorte. Kline has starred in such Public Theater productions as The Pirates of Penzance, Richard II, and Hamlet. He is currently an artistic associate of the theater, and a member of its Board of Trustees.

Streep’s appearances for the Public include Trelawny of the ‘Wells’, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Cherry Orchard. Earlier this year, she participated in The Public Sings, which celebrated the theater’s 50th anniversary. In August, she will star at the Delacorte in the title role of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage, to be directed by George C. Wolfe.
