Matt Bogart has replaced Jason Danieley as Pasha Antipov/Strelnikov in the upcoming La Jolla Playhouse production of the new musical Zhivago, which will run May 9-June 24. Directed by Des McAnuff, the show is scheduled to open officially on May 25.

Danieley, whose Broadway credits include Candide and The Full Monty, withdrew from the production because he was told by his doctors that he needed at least two weeks of vocal rest. Bogart has starred on Broadway in Aida, Miss Saigon, The Civil War, and Smokey Joe’s Cafe. Regionally, he has been seen in such shows as Orpheus Descending, Damn Yankees, Camille Claudel, and Company.

Based on Boris Pasternak’s classic novel Dr. Zhivago, the musical will star Ivan Hernandez in the title role, Tom Hewitt as Viktor, and Jessica Burrows as Lara. Also in the cast are Dominic Bogat (Matt’s brother), Sandy Campbell, Ryan Drummond, Mark Emerson, David C. Foster, Jason Heil, Melissa Hoff, Mackenzie Holmes, Christopher Kale Jones, Rebecca Kaasa, Melina Kalomas, Dennis Kelly, David McDonald, Spencer Moses, Eduardo Placer, Graham Rowat, Maureen Silliman, Tina Stafford, Rena Strober, Nick Ullett, Bibi Valderrama, and Melissa Van Der Schyff. The show has a book by Michael Weller, music by Lucy Simon, and lyrics by Michael Korie and Amy Powers.
