Burton, Goldwyn, Gummer, Lysy, Powell Set for Second Stage’s The Water’s Edge

Kate Burton, Tony Goldwyn, Mamie Gummer, Austin Lysy, and Katharine Powell will star in the Second Stage Theatre production of Theresa Rebeck’s The Water’s Edge, May 23-July 9. The show, to be directed by Will Frears, officially opens on June 15.

The play concerns a woman whose lakeside home is visited by her long-estranged ex-husband. Rebeck’s other plays include Bad Dates, The Family of Man and Spike Heels. Her newest play, The Scene, was recently performed at the Humana Festival and will reportedly be produced next season by Second Stage.

The show’s creative team includes Alexander Dodge (set design), Junghyun Georgia Lee (costume design), Frances Aronson (lighting design), Vincent Olivieri (sound design), and Michael Friedman (original music). Frears is currently represented Off-Broadway by Pen.

Burton is a two-time Tony Award nominee for Hedda Gabler and The Elephant Man, and was seen earlier this season on Broadway in The Constant Wife. Goldwyn’s stage credits include Spike Heels, The Dying Gaul, and The Sum of Us. Gummer was recently seen Off-Broadway in Mr. Marmalade. Lysy was seen earlier this season Off-Broadway in Manic Flight Reaction. Powell has guest-starred on the TV series Out of Practice and Without a Trace.
