Winokur to Join Hairspray Tour for L.A. Engagement

Marissa Jaret Winokur, who won a Tony Award for her performance as Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway production of Hairspray, will join the national tour of the hit musical for its engagement at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles this summer. Carly Jibson, who had been playing Tracy in the tour, will step into the Broadway production on May 4.

With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, Hairspray is based on the John Waters film of the same title. The show was directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell; the design team includes David Rockwell (sets), William Ivey Long (costumes), and Kenneth Posner (lighting).

Bruce Vilanch co-stars in the touring Hairspray as Edna Turnblad. Featured in the cast are Jordan Ballard, Terron Brooks, Sue Cella, Charlotte Crossley, Sandra DeNise, Joanna Glushak, Blake Hammond, Troy Britton Johnson, Austin Miller, and Todd Susman.
