Harvey Fierstein to Host Drama Desk Awards Ceremony

It has just been announced that Harvey Fierstein, the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning star of Hairspray, will host the 49th Annual Drama Desk Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 16 at 9pm.

The ceremony will be held at the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center and will be webcast live by TheaterMania.com for the second consecutive year. The event will be taped and televised on WNYC-TV Channel 74 in New York on Wednesday, May 19, at 9pm; Saturday, May 22, at 4pm; and Sunday, May 23 at 8pm. It will also be seen on Channel 36 in Los Angeles (times and dates yet to be determined) and the program is being offered to additional PBS stations around the country.

The Drama Desk Awards honor achievement in Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway theater. Nominations for this year’s honors will be announced by Mary-Louise Parker and Tony Roberts at a news conference and breakfast to be held at the New York Friars Club on Thursday, April 29 at 8:30am.
