Mixed reviews for the Trevor Nunn-Cameron Mackintosh-Susan Stroman production of Oklahoma! didn’t prevent that revival from garnering five awards from the Outer Critics Circle, which annually recognizes achievement both on and Off-Broadway. The second biggest winner among the 2001-2002 honorees is Urinetown, with three awards including one for Outstanding Broadway Musical. Edward Albe’s The Goat, Richard Greenberg’s The Dazzle, and the late Jonathan Larson’s tick, tick…BOOM! are the respective winners in the categories for Broadway play, Off-Broadway play, and Off-Broadway musical.

The Outer Critics Circle is a 52-year-old organization of
more than 75 individuals who write about New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media. Awards were given in 22 categories this year, and the winners were announced today. Based on a recommendation by the organization’s executive committee, special achievement awards are going to Mos Def and Jeffrey Wright for their performances in
Topdog/Underdog.

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 23 at Sardi’s restaurant at 4pm. Here is a complete list of the winners:
