For the first time in it's 19-year existence, The 2000 Astaire Awards will present nominees for their categories of Best Choreographer, Best Female Dancer and Best Male Dancer. The award which celebrates the best dance on the Broadway stage had previously named only one awardee in each category.

The nominees are:

Clyde Alves (The Music Man)
Michael Berresse (Kiss Me, Kate)
Stanley Wayne Mathis (Kiss Me, Kate)

The 2000 Astaire Awards will be presented at a benefit luncheon for Theatre Development Fund, hosted by former Astaire Awardee, Bebe Neuwirth, at Noon on Thursday, May 25 at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). The event will include several performance elements including special choreography by last year's "best choreographer" awardee, Patricia Birch.
