Two African-American Plays, Late Bus to Mecca and Every Goodbye Ain't Gone to Be Revived at the Studio Theatre

Late Bus to Mecca and Every Goodbye Ain't Gone will return to the stage in a new off-Broadway production directed by Marishka S. Phillips at The Studio Theatre. The plays, produced by Lauren M. Smith and Michael Sonnenberg, will have a limited run from March 28-April 6.

The two one-act plays, which will be performed back-to-back, highlight the African-American experience and showcase intense story lines and unforgettable characters grappling with personal matters while dealing with the historical movements of their eras.

Pearl Cleage's Late Bus to Mecca is the story of two oppressed women trapped by the two progressive movements of their time – civil rights and women's liberation. Their lives intersect at a Detroit bus station, and their random encounter provides both women a way to free themselves from their current circumstances.

Bill Harris' Every Goodbye Ain't Gone is a love story following a soldier and the jazz singer he can't escape.

The production's cast includes Dana Ferguson, Donald Calliste, Chineze Enekwechi, and Lauren M. Smith.
