Mercury Theater Chicago and The Hypocrites to Host a Weeklong Celebration of Stephen Sondheim's Birthday

Celebratory events will include panel discussions, performances, and a sing-along.

Mercury Theater Chicago and The Hypocrites will celebrate Stephen Sondheim's birthday with a weeklong celebration, beginning on March 16 with a panel discussion following The Hypocrites' 3pm performance Sondheim's Into the Woods.

The panel will feature Andra Velis Simon from Columbia College Chicago and Into the Woods director Geoff Button. Following the 2pm performance on March 22, a second panel discussion, will include Kris Vire, Associate Editor at Time Out Chicago, and Executive Director L. Walter Stearns.

Other events will include a classic sing-along on March 22, Stephen Sondheim's birthday, with selections from Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George, and Roadshow. A birthday cake from gourmet Southport bakery Sensational Bites will be served following the sing-along.

The Hypocrites' Into the Woods, which features a Tony-winning book by James Lapine, features musical direction by Matt Deitchman. The production opened on February 28 and has been extended through April 5.
