If you loved the music from Next to Normal, you'll want to check out Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's latest collaboration, If/Then, opening tonight at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The star-studded cast includes Tony winner Idina Menzel (Wicked), Tony winner LaChanze (The Color Purple), Anthony Rapp (Rent), James Snyder (Cry-Baby), Jerry Dixon (Once on This Island), Jenn Colella (Chaplin), and Jason Tam (Lysistrata Jones). Three-time Tony nominee Michael Greif (Next to Normal, Rent) directs.

Elizabeth (Menzel) moves back to New York City in the wake of her divorce. She's pushing 40 and looking for a new start. Her bisexual community organizer friend, Lucas (Rapp), suggests she work on her professional career and start going by the name "Beth." Kate (LaChanze), a lesbian kindergarten teacher, thinks that she should go by "Liz" while seeking out new and interesting personal experiences. As if by midlife crisis mitosis, Elizabeth immediately splits into the two new personas. "Liz" and "Beth" take radically divergent paths, showing the possibilities that exist with every choice.
