Blythe Danner Will Return to Broadway This Fall Via Manhattan Theatre Club

Blythe Danner, last seen in Manhattan Theatre Club's recent production of The Commons of Pensacola, will return to Broadway this fall in the company's upcoming production of Donald Margulies' new comedy, The Country House.

A coproduction with the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, The Country House, directed by Daniel Sullivan, finds Danner as Anna Patterson, the matriarch of a family of artists whose annual summer gathering exposes the jealousies within her clan. After opening this June at the Geffen, the show will begin previews at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on September 9, with opening night set for October 2.

Sullivan will also direct David Auburn's new play, Lost Lake, which will begin performances off-Broadway at New York City Center – Stage I on October 21. The drama follows a woman sucked into the life of a stranger after she rents his lakeside home. Opening night is set for November 11.

Next year will see the New York premiere of Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's The World of Extreme Happiness, directed by Eric Ting. Beginning previews at New York City Center – Stage I on February 3, 2015, the play follows a young woman as she moves from rural China to a larger city in the hopes of building a new identity, only to realize that life in modern China is full of inequities. A coproduction with Chicago's Goodman Theatre, the play will open February 24.

Additional titles in MTC's season will be announced in the coming months.
