Works by John Patrick Shanley, Jack Kerouac, and Langston Hughes to be Featured at LAByrinth's NEWYORKNEWYORK Festival

Labyrinth Theater Company will host a week-long festival of free readings in celebration of iconic New York City culture.

LAByrinth Theater Company, a staple of downtown New York City culture, has announced the works to be presented at its NEWYORKNEWYORK Festival. The festival will be held from March 18-24 at the Bank Street Theatre where LAByrinth will use the city of New York as its "muse" for this week-long tribute to its rich history of culture and tradition.

The festival will consist of discussions and free readings of plays that will be presented by LAByrinth company members as well as various guest artists. All of the works on the roster will feature themes related to New York—highlighting aspects of New York City culture, urban ideals, or having been penned by New York City residents. A 48-hour marathon weekend of round-the-clock theater will round out this week-long homage to LAByrinth's hometown.

The following is the current schedule of readings set for the festival:

Monday, March 18th at 8pm
The Indian Wants The Bronx
By Israel Horovitz
The reading will be followed by a discussion about the Off-Broadway movement in the late 60's moderated by playwright Israel Horovitz.

Tuesday, March 19th at 8pm
In Arabia, We'd All Be Kings
By Stephen Adly Guirgis
The reading will be followed by a discussion about Labyrinth's deeply rooted connection to NYC and will be moderated by Stephen Adly Guirgis.

Wednesday, March 20th at 8pm
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea
By John Patrick Shanley
The reading will be followed by a discussion moderated by John Patrick Shanley about NY Theater in the 1980s.

Thursday, March 21st at 8pm
Dutchman
By Amiri Baraka
The reading will be followed by a discussion about NY Theater through the African-American lens moderated by playwright Amiri Baraka.

The marathon weekend will begin on Friday March 22 at 7pm and continue through Sunday March 24 at 9pm and will feature the works of Edward Albee, James Baldwin, Maria Irene Fornes, John Guare, Lorraine Hansberry, Langston Hughes, David Henry Hwang, Jack Kerouac, Sidney Kingsley, Kenneth Lonnergan, Arthur Miller, Eugene O'Neill, Clifford Odets, Dawn Powell, Miguel Pinero, Sam Shepard, and more.
