AUDELCO Award-winning actor/playwright Daniel Beaty (Through the Night) will bring his new solo show, Mr. Joy, to Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3 for an 11-performance workshop run this April at the Claire Tow Theater. Directed by Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall), the work will be performed April 8-9, 12-15, and 17-21.

In his signature style, Beaty stars as all of the characters in the new play, which is set in the aftermath of a mysterious incident in the life of Mr. Joy, a Chinese-American man who has run a shoe-repair shop for decades in Harlem. As his customers and neighbors learn of the incident, they realize the impact he has had on their lives and community.

Beaty is also the author of the plays Emergen-See!, Resurrection, The Tallest Tree in the Forest, and the children's book Knock Knock, which will be released later this year. Kaller has directed productions of Adrift in Macao, Rancho Cucamonga, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, Weird Romance, and Dangerous Beauty.

Mr. Joy is presented as an LCT3 Special Event, which welcomes emerging theater companies and artists to present workshop productions of new works in various stages of development in the Claire Tow Theater. The inaugural LCT3 Special Event was the summer 2012 production of Young Jean Lee's Obie Award-winning We're Gonna Die. LCT3's next production will be the world premiere of Daniel Pearle's A Kid Like Jake, beginning June 2.
