Recordings of two songs from the upcoming Chicago and Broadway musical Big Fish have been released just in time to get you through your midweek, magical-realism-free slump. The tunes, entitled "Time Stops" and "Fight the Dragons," are performed by the show's stars, two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (Catch Me If You Can) and Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin (Giant).
Big Fish is based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 film of the same name. It is a modern fable about a father and son with stories of epic and largely unbelievable proportions told by Edward Bloom. When Bloom's final chapter approaches, his son, Will, frequently frustrated by his father's stories, embarks on his own journey to find out who his father truly is.
The production will open on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on October 6, 2013 after its world premiere at Chicago's Oriental Theatre this April. Baldwin's fellow Giant castmates Bobby Steggert and Katie Thompson also star in the production directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Additional cast of Big Fish includes Krystal Joy Brown (Leap Of Faith), Zachary Unger (Chaplin), Ryan Andes, Ben Crawford, J.C. Montgomery, Brad Oscar, Kirsten Scott, and Sarrah Strimel.
